Design Engineer - Erection Engineering
SDL is currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our growing Erection Engineering Division. This position plays a critical role in analyzing temporary and staged loading conditions and developing sequencing and erection strategies for the safe and efficient installation of complex steel structures.

Responsibilities:

Structural analysis for temporary and staged conditions.

Erection planning and sequence development.

Close collaboration with engineers of record, steel fabricators, and erection teams.

Identification and resolution of constructability issues.

Supporting the successful erection of final structural systems.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering | Masters Required.

Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam; E.I. or E.I.T. certification required.

Minimum 3 years of experience in relevant structural design/analysis roles.

Proficient with structural analysis software (SAP2000, Tekla Structures preferred).

Strong understanding of steel construction and erection techniques.

Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Structural Engineer - Construction Administration
We are seeking a Structural Engineer - Construction Administration to support projects during the construction phase and serve as a technical resource in the field. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys seeing designs come to life and ensuring construction is executed in accordance with issued plans, specifications, and design intent.
You will work closely with contractors, project managers, and clients, combining technical review with regular jobsite presence to help projects progress efficiently, safely, and correctly. The position requires strong judgment, independence, and practical problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
-
Independently plan, prioritize, and manage daily tasks and deadlines, supporting construction activities with minimal supervision
-
Perform regular job-site visits and structural observations to verify construction is proceeding in accordance with issued drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and applicable codes
-
Conduct site investigations, including field verification and documentation of existing conditions, to support design development and investigative studies
-
Document site observations and prepare clear, concise field reports
-
Review, coordinate, and respond to RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings in a timely and technically sound manner
-
Attend pre-construction meetings, coordination meetings, and site meetings as required
-
Identify construction challenges and nonconforming work and provide practical, code-compliant solutions consistent with design intent
-
Coordinate with internal design teams to clarify structural intent, resolve field conditions, and evaluate proposed changes
-
Serve as a technical liaison between the firm, contractor, and owner throughout the construction phase
-
Demonstrate the technical ability to periodically assist the design team with various software listed in Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s is a plus)

3 years minimum experience in structural engineering or construction administration
-
Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction documents
-
Comfortable conducting site visits and communicating directly with contractors
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of field reports and technical correspondence

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe

Experience with concrete, steel, and/or post-tensioned structures
-
Strong understanding of structural design principles, construction means and methods, and applicable building codes

Proficient with standard engineering software (RAM, RISA, ADAPT, etc.) and Microsoft Office
-
Prior experience supporting construction-phase services on mid- to large-scale projects is a plus
-
Familiarity with REVIT is a plus
-
Demonstrated experience reviewing, evaluating, and responding to RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings is a plus

Design Engineer - Atlanta and Nashville
​As an SDL Design Engineer, you will be involved in every project phase, from planning to close-out. Your responsibilities will include analyzing and designing structures using software such as RAM, ETABS, RISA, and SAP2000. You will assist in documenting designs in Autodesk Revit and support Construction Administration efforts through job observations and submittal reviews. Additionally, you will work with various structural materials like steel, concrete, masonry, and wood, gaining exposure to a wide range of engineering challenges.

The ideal candidate will have a B.S. in Civil or Architectural Engineering, with a Master’s degree preferred, and will have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, achieving E.I. or E.I.T. status. We expect our Design Engineers to become Professional Engineers (P.E.) once they meet the requirements.

BIM Coordinator - Charlotte
As an SDL Autodesk Revit Structural BIM Coordinator, you will prepare structural drawings based on structural specifications, engineering notes, sketches, and detailed design information. This position requires a minimum of two years of predominantly Autodesk Revit Structure experience. You will compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations necessary for 2D and 3D drawing/modeling preparations. Your Revit expertise and ability to work effectively as part of a team will be crucial to your success.

You will be responsible for providing a full range of drawing production work for the structural discipline. This includes creating complete Building Information Models (BIM) using Autodesk Revit from limited verbal and/or written descriptions from SDL’s registered engineers. You will demonstrate independent decision-making skills in drawing production and project execution and have the ability to coordinate BIM and CAD deliverables while successfully corresponding with clients or outside personnel. Other duties and responsibilities may also be assigned.
