SDL is seeking a Design Engineer to join our growing Erection Engineering team. This position plays a critical role in analyzing temporary and staged loading conditions and developing sequencing and erection strategies for the safe and efficient installation of complex steel structures.

SDL is seeking a Structural Engineer (Construction Administration) within our Building Design team to support projects during the construction phase and serve as a technical resource in the field. This role suits an engineer who enjoys seeing designs come to life while working closely with contractors, project managers, and clients to ensure construction is executed in accordance with issued plans, specifications, and design intent.

Responsibilities:

• Independently plan, prioritize, and manage daily tasks and deadlines, supporting construction activities with minimal supervision.

• Perform pre-construction meetings, coordination meetings, regular job-site visits, and structural observations to verify construction is proceeding in compliance with issued drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.

• Prepare clear and concise field reports documenting site observations and direction given.

• Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings in a timely, technically sound manner.

• Identify constructability issues and nonconforming work, providing practical, code-compliant solutions consistent with design intent.

• Coordinate with internal design teams to resolve field conditions and evaluate proposed changes.

• Serve as a technical liaison between SDL and the contractor, client, and owner throughout construction.

• Periodically assist the design team with building design.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering, Structural emphasis a plus, Master's degree a plus.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in structural engineering or construction administration.

• PE license, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.

• Strong understanding of structural design principles, construction means and methods, and applicable building codes.

• Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction documents.

• Proficient with standard engineering software (RAM, RISA, ADAPT), Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. Experience with Revit a plus.

• Attention to accuracy and detail with strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience with concrete, steel, and/or post-tensioned structures.

• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

• Collaborative and practical with a passion for construction and structures.

Design Engineer – Building Design | Atlanta and Nashville

SDL is seeking a Design Engineer to join our Building Design team and be involved in every phase of a project, from planning through close-out. This role offers exposure to a wide range of structural materials and engineering challenges, with a path and expectation to become licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) when those requirements are met.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and design structures using software such as RAM, ETABS, RISA, and SAP2000.

• Assist in documenting designs in Autodesk Revit.

• Support Construction Administration through job observations and submittal reviews.

• Work across structural materials including steel, concrete (conventionally reinforced and post‑tensioned), masonry, and wood.

SDL is seeking an Autodesk Revit BIM Coordinator to provide a full range of Building Information Model (BIM) and drawing production for our Building Design Team.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare structural drawings and models based on engineering specifications, notes, sketches, and design information, at times with limited verbal and/or written direction.

• Create and manage BIM structural models using Autodesk Revit.

• Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations for 2D and 3D drawing/modeling.

• Coordinate BIM and CAD deliverables, with the ability to correspond directly with clients and outside personnel.

• Exercise independent decision-making in drawing production and project execution.

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned in coordination with the role.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of experience, predominantly in Autodesk Revit.

• Strong Revit and modeling expertise with the ability to work successfully as part of both a small project team and an office-wide BIM modeling team.

Design Engineer Intern | Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte

SDL is seeking Design Engineer Interns to join our project teams and gain hands-on experience in structural engineering and the structural engineering consultancy. At SDL interns are integrated into project teams, working alongside licensed engineers on real projects in different stages of completion, from design to construction.

Responsibilities:

• Perform calculations for various aspects of concrete, steel, masonry, and/or wood building design, including foundations

• BIM modeling, data entry, and other assistance with preparation of construction plans and specifications

• Research of various building code topics

• Assist in review of shop drawings, on-site field inspections, coordination with contractors, or other construction administration activities

• Provide support to other groups within SDL as needed

 Qualifications:

• Current Civil Engineering graduate or undergraduate student (minimum Junior) in good standing at accredited university with an interest in, and enthusiasm for, structural engineering

• Minimum 3.0 GPA

• Basic understanding of general structural engineering concepts

• Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thinking and problem solving

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

• Basic AutoCAD/Revit and Bluebeam skills, or willingness to learn

• Familiarity with structural engineering design and analysis software a plus
